Sveučilište u Splitu podržava UN-ove ciljeve održivog razvoja

Marine fisheries is a complex economic activity that is not only subject to the influence of various biotic and abiotic factors that condition its development and direct its development, but for the proper management and protection of renewable marine resources, it is also necessary to take into account biotechnological, technical, economic, legal and numerous other aspects. Therefore, for the proper and responsible management and protection of renewable marine resources and for the development and implementation of the activities of catching, breeding, preserving, processing and trading fish and other marine organisms, it is necessary to educate the personnel needed for the successful implementation of marine fisheries. These personnel are educated in the Marine Fisheries graduate program, which educates highly qualified personnel qualified to work in marine fisheries issues in accordance with the maritime, or Adriatic, orientation of the Republic of Croatia. The study lasts two years and by passing all the exams prescribed by the study program and defending the graduation thesis, i.e. with 120 ECTS credits, the student acquires the academic title of Master of Science in Marine Fisheries Engineering.
Ecology and Marine Protection
The purpose of the study program in Ecology and Marine Protection is to educate personnel for work in the field of biological oceanography, which includes a wide range of biological research from the diversity of marine organisms to their distribution, characteristics, mutual relationships and interactions with the marine environment. Furthermore, due to the increasingly present problem of dumping a large number of harmful and dangerous substances into the sea and the irrational use of marine resources, special attention is paid through this study to the protection of endangered species and ecologically endangered areas. From all of the above, it is evident that working on ecology and marine protection, in addition to a good knowledge of biology, also requires knowledge in the fields of ecology, biotechnology, integrated coastal zone management and the law on the protection of fishing and the marine environment. To understand the entire range of biological processes in the sea, it is necessary to have a good knowledge of the functioning of the entire marine ecosystem, which is why this work requires an extremely high level of multidisciplinary expertise, which can be achieved with this study program. The study lasts two years, and by passing all exams prescribed by the study program and defending the diploma thesis, i.e. with 120 ECTS credits acquired, the student acquires the academic title of Master of Science in Marine Ecology and Protection.
